While the JYRO Tandem Canopy 330 is expertly engineered to perform under pressure, applying best practices can elevate your tandem skydiving experience even further. Whether you’re running high-frequency loads at a busy dropzone or refining your personal technique, these use tips ensure that every flight is smoother, safer, and more efficient.

---

1. Prioritize Consistency in Pre-Jump Checks

Your First Safety Layer Begins on the Ground

Before stepping onto the aircraft, give the canopy and system a thorough inspection. That alone can prevent 90% of avoidable malfunctions.

• ✅ Inspect the canopy fabric under direct light for wear or punctures

• ✅ Double-check riser and brake toggle setups for symmetry

• ✅ Clear lines of knots, twists, or snags prior to stowing

• ✅ Match harness fit to passenger’s build for optimal deployment body position

• ✅ Communicate gear status with packers or teammates clearly

Consistency builds safety. Even when rushed, develop the discipline to perform a full check—every time.

---

2. Use Body Position to Improve Openings

Stable Exits Lead to Predictable Deployment

Because the JYRO 330 is designed to open on-heading, it rewards instructors who maintain symmetrical body positions during deployment.

• ✅ Keep hips square and chest level during drogue release

• ✅ Delay grabbing toggles until full line stretch is complete

• ✅ Avoid twisting under canopy—allow inflation to stabilize before input

• ✅ Let the wing breathe for a few seconds before making corrections

Openings are where students often feel the most anxiety. A smooth, calm inflation helps them feel secure—and reinforces your credibility.

---

3. Fly a Smart, Structured Canopy Pattern

Discipline in Flight Keeps You Ahead of Problems

While the JYRO 330 is highly forgiving in the air, planning your descent from the moment it opens gives you full control over your landing strategy.

• ✅ Establish a predictable pattern: downwind → base → final

• ✅ Stay clear of crowded lanes by announcing turns early over radio

• ✅ Check wind sock direction and speed before each jump

• ✅ Monitor air traffic and adjust distance from other tandems

• ✅ Maintain altitude awareness, using audible and visual altimeters

Planning avoids panic. Structured flight not only improves safety—it also builds passenger trust.

---

4. Master Your Flare Timing

Soft Landings Come From Proper Inputs, Not Guesswork

Because the flare on the JYRO 330 is long and progressive, it gives instructors the ability to land even heavy tandems smoothly.

• ✅ Begin flaring around 10–12 feet AGL in neutral wind conditions

• ✅ Pull smoothly through the entire arc—avoid abrupt or shallow inputs

• ✅ Finish the flare with both arms fully extended at hip height

• ✅ Time your flare slightly earlier in downwind landings

• ✅ Finish slightly lower when airspeed is high to avoid stall before touchdown

You’ll feel the difference immediately. Flared correctly, this canopy lands like a cushion—every time.

---

5. Understand Glide and Recovery Behavior

Adapt Your Flight to Distance and Weather

With a glide ratio around 3.2:1, the JYRO Tandem Canopy 330 lets you stretch further when needed—but only if you manage inputs wisely.

• ✅ Use rear risers in long glides to preserve flare energy

• ✅ Fly with toggles up when clearing distance obstacles

• ✅ Avoid prolonged brake flight—this increases sink rate dramatically

• ✅ In strong headwinds, maintain forward momentum until final

• ✅ In turbulence, let the canopy self-recover—its arc is naturally stabilizing

Understanding your wing’s capabilities gives you options when conditions shift or landings go long.

---

6. Stay Ahead of Packing Maintenance

A Well-Maintained Wing Flies Better and Lasts Longer

Even with tough ZP fabric, tandem use demands high maintenance awareness. Don’t wait for performance to dip before you act.

• ✅ Reline every 400–500 jumps, or sooner if toggles feel asymmetrical

• ✅ Replace damaged line stows or pilot chute kill lines before degradation affects deployment

• ✅ Rotate risers and inspect for stretching or uneven wear monthly

• ✅ Store your canopy in climate-controlled environments whenever possible

• ✅ Dry it completely before packing after humid or wet jumps

Smart maintenance extends life. It also ensures every flight behaves the way it should.

---

7. Communicate with Your Passenger

Confidence Is Part of the Ride

Students feel everything in a tandem jump—from minor surges to toggled turns. How you communicate during descent affects their comfort and safety.buy parachute

• ✅ Brief them on canopy descent expectations before the jump

• ✅ Explain how the flare works and why they’ll feel the lift

• ✅ Talk them through the landing posture, especially foot position

• ✅ Reassure them during opening, turns, and landing setup

• ✅ Celebrate the experience once you’re both safely down

Instructors who talk through their process build rapport and enhance perceived safety—especially with nervous jumpers.buy parachute

Deployment Safety Guidelines

Smooth Openings Begin with Smart Execution

Although the JYRO Tandem Canopy 330 boasts consistent, stable openings, your deployment behavior plays a huge role in outcome.

• ✅ Achieve stable body position before pulling—neutral belly-to-earth is key

• ✅ Release the drogue with proper timing, allowing clean extraction and even line stretch

• ✅ Avoid sudden body twists during deployment—this helps maintain heading and prevent line twists

• ✅ Wait for full inflation before grabbing toggles—don’t rush to steer until the wing is fully pressurized

• ✅ Communicate with your passenger—stay calm and maintain composure to keep them relaxed

Because this canopy is designed with controlled inflation in mind, following these habits ensures you benefit from its natural heading-hold and gentle snatch forces.

---

In-Flight Safety Practices

Maintain Awareness—Control, Don’t Overcorrect

The in-flight phase is where judgment matters most. Even with a forgiving wing like the JYRO 330, overcontrol or poor planning can create safety concerns.

• ✅ Fly a clear pattern: Establish your landing circuit early—base, final, and altitude points

• ✅ Avoid steep turns below 800 ft: High-G maneuvers at low altitude invite serious risk

• ✅ Stay aware of other traffic: Constantly scan for other tandems, students, or canopy pilots

• ✅ Use gentle inputs: Sudden, aggressive toggling can destabilize flight

• ✅ Prepare for alternate LZs: Always have a Plan B, especially in variable winds

• ✅ Avoid slow flight near the ground unless committed to flaring

Flying safely means making calm, clear decisions—not reacting emotionally. This canopy supports intelligent inputs and rewards conservative piloting.parachute skydiving

---

Landing Safety Protocols

Control the Approach, Command the Flare

Your final 100 feet are the most important part of any skydive. With the JYRO Tandem Canopy 330’s strong flare and wide window, you gain tremendous authority—when used correctly.

• ✅ Establish your final leg early: Maintain a straight line and clear airspace

• ✅ Begin flare around 10–12 feet AGL (adjust for wind and load)

• ✅ Finish with full extension: Stop forward motion completely to reduce slide or stumble

• ✅ Land into the wind whenever possible—even light winds help

• ✅ Avoid toggle pumping: This reduces flare power and creates instability

Whenever in doubt, default to a longer, stronger flare. The canopy retains glide well and provides a deep brake range without stalling.parachute skydiving

To optimize this phase:

• ✅ Maintain stable belly-to-earth position until line stretch

• ✅ Allow the canopy to inflate fully before reaching for toggles

• ✅ Avoid aggressive body movement that might cause oscillation

This canopy handles the rest. Its design absorbs turbulence and realigns naturally without input.

---

In-Flight Handling – Confident and Calm

As soon as you take the toggles, you’ll notice how light and intuitive the controls feel. The JYRO 330 responds to toggle pressure with a smooth, progressive turn that increases confidence without requiring correction.

Here’s how to maximize that control:

• ✅ Use gentle inputs for directional corrections

• ✅ Keep toggles near the neutral point to conserve altitude

• ✅ Use rear risers for long glides or flat turns to minimize sink rate

• ✅ Let the canopy “breathe” between maneuvers for better energy retention

Because of its wide recovery arc, you won’t need to overcorrect. The canopy centers itself beautifully after turns.

---

Flare Technique – Make Every Landing Count

The flare on the JYRO 330 is where it truly excels. It delivers a long, forgiving window and powerful lift, even with heavier tandems.

To master landings:

1. Begin your flare early at around 10–12 feet AGL (depending on wind).

2. Pull down smoothly and steadily through the full range.

3. Finish with full extension to maximize lift and reduce forward speed.

4. Resist pumping the toggles—one clean flare works best.

Passengers will appreciate the soft touchdown, and you’ll walk away knowing you landed professionally.

---

Special Situations – Built to Adapt

Every jump is different. Thankfully, the JYRO Tandem Canopy 330 handles variation with grace. Here’s how to adjust:

• High Winds? Use a staged flare—start early and finish strong.

• No Wind? Maintain speed through the approach and flare later for lift.

• Off-DZ Glide? Use brakes sparingly, lean on rear risers, and fly flat.

• Light Passenger? Expect slightly slower forward speed—flare slightly earlier.

• Heavy Exit Weight? The flare window shortens—time your pull precisely.

No matter the conditions, you’ll find the canopy predictable and cooperative.parachute buy
